What’s the Differences between Men’s and Women’s Watches?

Some people wear watches to see the time, some for decoration, and we have met many brand owners who, at first, when they wanted to Customized watches, would ask us: How do you distinguish between men’s and women’s watches?

The difference between men’s and women’s watches lies in their design and size.

Men’s watches tend to have larger watch faces/dials and wider also thicker bands, whereas women’s watches are smaller with thinner bands.

Women’s watches also often have more decorative elements, such as gems or glitter, and come in a wider range of colors and styles. However, with the increasing popularity of unisex and minimalist designs, the distinction between men’s and women’s watches is becoming less clear. Ultimately, the choice between a men’s or women’s watch comes down to personal preference and style.

But Let’s say the slight differences between men’s and women’s watches

The Main Differences Between Men’s and Women’s Watches

The main differences between women’s and men’s watches are strap sizes, dial sizes, and watch case style and weight. let’s see it.

Watch Cases ( The size of the watch)

The biggest mental part of the watch is the watch case, The case of men’s watches is larger and thicker than that of women’s watches.

As a watch customization manufacturer specializing in production, we categorize our watches primarily by size. this is said: watch case dimension
When consulting with clients, we inquire about their preferred size. if men’s sizes, Watches that are 40mm or larger, such as 40mm, 41mm, 42mm, and 43mm, are typically designated as men’s watches. In contrast, sizes like 38mm, 36mm, 34mm, and 32mm are considered women’s watches. Additionally, some unisex options, are commonly available in sizes such as 40mm and 38mm.

suggestions on watch sizes when you customize your brand watches:

Based on our extensive experience, we’ve observed regional preferences for watch sizes. In Asian markets, men often opt for watches sized 41mm, 40mm, and 39mm, with 40mm being the most prevalent. Women are more likely to choose watches measuring 32mm or 34mm, with 34mm as the favored size. Conversely, in European and American markets, men tend to prefer watches around 42mm, while women select sizes such as 36mm or 38mm. We take these preferences into account to provide tailored recommendations for our clientsbrands.
Someone else said, don’t you care how thick the watch is? Thickness is important to watches, and yes, thickness does matter, but it’s not the deciding factor in determining whether a watch is a men’s watch or a women’s watch.

Strap Size(Width and Length)

Men’s straps tend to be thicker, and wider, and the surface might be roughWomen’s watches are usually thinner and smaller overall. their straps tend to be shorter because women’s wrists are usually smaller than men’s wrists.

16mm straps may be the smallest width for women’s straps,

But men’s sizes start from 20mm

Dial size (watch face)

Women’s watches tend to have smaller face sizes than men’s watches

Weight

Men’s watches are generally heavier than women’s watches because their cases and other accessories are made of more materials.

So watch manufacturers generally distinguish between women’s watches and men’s watches by watch size, The size of men’s watches is generally 38-40-42-44-45mm, women’s watches are 28-32-34-36mm, and we generally do not look at the design or other aspects.

Other differences between men’s and women’s watches?

Women’s and men’s watches differ in color, functions, and styles, they have very different styles, including colors, designs, and decorations.

For colors,

colorful dial watches

Men’s watches usually come in black, silver, and gold. Women’s watches can come in a wider variety of colors: red, pink, green, blue, champagne, gold, colorful, etc.,

While In Styles and Designs

Men’s watches look more classic and more useful, while women’s watches are finely crafted for fashion purposes.

Women’s watches are also more understated in appearance, emphasizing quiet elegance rather than crazy and special design. Men’s watches often have more rigid shapes and bolder trims on shape and finish.

The watch hands of men are larger and wider

Women’s watches tend to feature more delicate metals, more strap links, and more decoration, like chain straps, It also usually includes tassels or other feminine details. These details are intended to bring a delicate touch to women’s watches, It is not hard to see that women’s watches have gemstones on the dial, bezel, or straps

While mentioned functions

Men’s watches usually have much more features than women’s watches. Calendars and stopwatches are must-have features for high-end buyers.

a woman’s watch will have fewer complications than a man’s. Women’s are more minimalist and simple, just like the women’s chronographs, skeleton, and mechanical watches on the market are less than men’s watches

What are Mechanical Watches and How to Use it?

What are Mechanical Watches and How to Use it?

When I say watch, you think of a high-grade product for sure, a luxury product with a high price. Watches are usually found in high-grade occasions, especially mechanical watches. Everyone is after mechanical watches. So do you know how to maintain and use them?

What mechanical watch means?

The working principle of mechanical watches is actually very clear in Wikipedia, you can refer to it here

“A mechanical watch is a watch that uses a clockwork mechanism to measure the passage of time,

as opposed to quartz watches which function using the vibration modes of a piezoelectric quartz tuning fork, or radio watches, which are quartz watches synchronized to an atomic clock via radio waves.

A mechanical watch is driven by a mainspring which must be wound either periodically by hand or via a self-winding mechanism. Its force is transmitted through a series of gears to power the balance wheel, a weighted wheel which oscillates back and forth at a constant rate.

A device called an escapement releases the watch’s wheels to move forward a small amount with each swing of the balance wheel, moving the watch’s hands forward at a constant rate.

The escapement is what makes the ‘tickingsound which is heard in an operating mechanical watch.”

What powers a mechanical watch?

Mechanical watches are usually divided into two types: hand-wound and automatic (AUTOMATIC).

Both types of mechanical watches are powered by the clockwork in the movement, which drives the gears that push the hands, but the power source differs.

What is a self-winding mechanical watch?

A hand-wound mechanical watch is manually wound, and the thickness of the movement is thinner than that of an automatic watch, making the watch lighter in weight.

What is an automatic mechanical watch?

Automatic mechanical watch, that is a self-winding watch, on the other hand, uses the power generated by the left and right oscillation of the rotor at the bottom of the movement to drive the clockwork to generate potential energy, but the thickness of the watch is relatively thicker than that of an ordinary hand-wound watch.

How to Use a Mechanical ( Automatic and Hand-winding) Watch? How to Set Up a Mechanical Watch?

After getting a mechanical watch, the first thing you will do is to wind the watch, so how to wind the mechanical watch correctly? Let’s tell you about it today.

01

How often to wind up the mechanical watch?

Manual mechanical watches are recommended to be fully wound only once a day。

A fully wound watch can usually run for about 30 hours or more, up to eight days or more.

Image

Automatic mechanical watches do not need to be wound every day under normal circumstances.

A fully wound automatic mechanical watch can run continuously for about 36 hours, and can operate for about 15 hours if it is guaranteed to be worn normally every day. If it is not worn for more than the above time, the watch should be fully wound before it is worn again.

02

How do I wind it up??

Usually 20-30 rotations are sufficient。

When resistance is felt during the winding process, it means that the watch has stored enough power. Over-winding can cause a lot of damage to the movement.

Image

03

Precautions of Winding Automatic mechanical watch

If your move is sufficient, Try not use hand winding.。

Because hand-winding requires the handle to drive many automatic wheels together, automatic parts are very prone to wear and tear, adding unnecessary maintenance costs for watch enthusiasts.

Image

Also, you should never mooch your wrist to replenish the energy, it will easily cause the automatic tourbillon to loosen and fall off. In case of insufficient power, just wind it manually directly.

04

Other notes about winding

Keep your movements slow and even when winding.。

The most serious consequence of too much speed is that the function of the gear teeth is destroyed. Slow and even wind movements can prevent or reduce wear and damage between gears.

Image

You need to remove the watch from your wrist when winding, it is easier to feel the tightness of the internal winding, and it can also avoid uneven force during the winding process, which may cause unnecessary damage to the internal movement

It is important to learn how to wind your watch correctly so that your watch will stay with you for a longer period of time.

Pros and Cons of Mechanical Watches

The advantage of mechanical watches is: through regular maintenance and oil washing, they can be used for a long time.

But the disadvantage is: the error is bigger than in quartz watches because the quality of production is high or low and the movement inside the watch is susceptible to the influence of gravity and produces errors. Usually, the error of mechanical watches is calculated by the number of seconds difference per day, while the error of quartz watches is calculated by the number of seconds difference per month.

Notice when using

1、Wear normally Avoid vibration

Only when you have the amount of activity the watch can continuously run, to keep the watch wound and running normally (it may be slow when the wearer is less active, which is normal. Please rotate the crown 20-30 times when using the watch for the first time to make the initial winding). Although the watch is shockproof, it is easy to break the tip of the pendulum or the journal of the wheel system when the external impact is strong, and the fast and slow hands may vibrate to affect the time.

2、Prevents magnetization

Although the watch is made of non-magnetic materials that are not easily magnetized, it is affected by magnetic fields, such as the magnetic clasp on a TV, radio speaker, backpack, or purse.

3、Waterproof

Try not to take the watch to swim or wash clothes, and once it gets wet or wetted by rain, you should not pull out the crown to adjust the watch at this time, but dry it immediately. As the head of the watch crown is relatively protruding, try to avoid knocking it, and pay attention to the gaps between the case and the crown when production, If it is too small, It’s hard to rotate adjust the time, If it is too big, it’s not nice.

4、Watch cleaning

In general, you can clean the oil or dust within 3~5 years, when to clean the watches, It depends on the following factors:

① the sealing problem of the watch

② the degree of wear of the watch (wear degree)

③ quartz watches can be longer

④ men’s watches or pocket watches can be more frequently compared to the thin type or women’s watches

5、 places to put the watches which are not used for a long time

Do not put them in the suitcase with mothballs and sanitary balls, which will deteriorate the oil and make the watch machine inaccurate.

Wind or wear the watch at monthly intervals to ensure flexible internal activities.

How to Maintain my Mechanical Watches?

First of all, unless the mechanical watch is marked with water resistance, you must avoid water in the case, because water will cause mechanical corrosion, and the destructive force is very strong. Else, pls far away from the seawater.

Even if it is stated waterproof watch, it can only have a waterproof guarantee for one year, because the waterproof ring(I-ring) of the watch will be tired after a whole year of wear and tear, plus sweat, dust, and other unavoidable external factors, so it must be replaced with a new waterproof ring after one year, otherwise, it will not have the function of waterproof.

In addition to water resistance, it is also important to prevent collisions. Under the scope of financial ability, it is worth having two or three watches to replace in daily life:

Buy a mechanical watch for static activities and a quartz watch for work, so that the use of time and place will help extend the service life of the watch.

The mechanical watch is driven by mechanical gears and clockwork and rotation, and rotation inevitably produces friction.

Therefore, it is necessary to add oil and lubrication over time to reduce the rate of wear of parts. Otherwise, if you wait until the problem is sent to repair, the problem is often very serious.

Therefore, it is best to send the mechanical watch to the watch repair store every year to check to see if there is improper use or water into the watches.

In particular, the local climate is hot and humid, and sweat, rain, and dirty air accumulated over the years, causing chronic erosion of machinery, the frequency and degree of damage are much higher, so regular inspection is very important; then every three years need to make a thorough cleaning, maintenance.

Usually the water resistance of 30 meters(3ATM) or 50 meters(5ATM) indicated on the watch refers to the data measured in the laboratory, It is tested by using pure water, so the water resistance of the watch is usually limited to wearing a shower, washing hands, do not wear it when swimming, diving, bathing, which will cause serious damage to the watch

Why my Automatic mechanical watch slow walking

The watch is magnetized: As mentioned before, any watch if affected by a magnetic field, will cause deviations in timekeeping. If the automatic mechanical watch is slow, the watch may be affected by the magnetic field;

maybe it is because you had put the watch close to the magnetic field, such as audio, computer, TV, and other items with magnetism, so you can go to a watch repair store and demagnetize the watch.

Insufficient kinetic energy: fully automatic mechanical watches do not have to rely on manual winding to maintain power; they are powered by wear for more than 8 hours a day.

so ensure a certain amount of arms activity will be able to automatically wind up and store to a sufficient amount of power. If you find that the automatic mechanical watch is slowing down, it must result from insufficient power. This requires a quick swing of the arm to make the kinetic energy of the watch sufficient.

Too few times of maintenance: After a long time of wear of the Automatic mechanical watches, both the surface and the internal structure will more or less be covered with some sweat and grease, or dust and impurities in the air.

If the watch is not regularly maintained and cleaned, when the sludge accumulates to a certain degree, it will affect the time of the watch and cause the problem of slowing down the time.

If it is not convenient to clean the watch by yourself, you should send it to a repair store for cleaning, oiling, and maintenance.

FAQ of Mechanical Watches

Are mechanical watches better?

For general wear, quartz watches are better. For collecting hobby, mechanical watches are better. For watch accuracy, mechanical watches are not as accurate as quartz watches

What makes a mechanical watch special? Why do people prefer mechanical watches?

The specialty of a mechanical watch is its mechanical design and inside movement structure.

Some are because they love to collect watches, the texture, the sense of high level, where it is very dignified, and boys are born to mechanical things have an inexplicable good feeling, so many people like to wear mechanical watches, And it is the same like most girls like pink, I think there is nothing different in essence

Does the mechanical watch need a battery?

No Need, It is driven by a spool that pushes the gears

Do mechanical watches run forever?

If you do regular maintenance, the minimum lifetime of a mechanical watch is about 10-15 years, and some well-known Swiss watch brands manufacture mechanical watches life can reach decades

Is mechanical better than quartz?

From the point of view of time accuracy, mechanical watches are more accurate than quartz watches, and most mechanical watches are priced and configured to be more accurate than quartz watches

Do you have to wind a mechanical watch every day?

Yes, if you wear it every day,

For hand-winding watches, You need to wind up 20-30 rotations are sufficient。

Do mechanical watches hold their value?

Not all mechanical watches retain their value, only some well-known brands of mechanical watches hold their value because the brand holds its value

What happens if you don’t wind a mechanical watch?

Mechanical watches are oiled, if they do not go for a long time, it will lead to the gears and escapement system inside will not be properly lubricated and affecting the accuracy of the time.

If you do not need to use your mechanical watch for a while, please remember to wind it up at least once a month. This will prevent the performance of the internal parts from degrading due to prolonged standstill, and will also prevent the oil from solidifying inside the watch.

How do I know if my watch is mechanical?

The easiest way to quickly distinguish a watch is to look at the movement of the second hand. In most cases, the second hand of a pointer-type quartz watch is jump-moving, one second at a time. The mechanical watch is sweeping smoothly across the dial.

Another way is to check the back of the dial text, It will write with quartz movement or Mechanical movement.

Are luxury watches mechanical?

All About Chronograph Watches-What? How? Types of chronograph?

What is Chronograph?

A chronograph, or Chrono watch, is a watch with a stopwatch function.

The chronograph movement has a ticking sound, a tachymeter

A standard watch indicates the passing of time continuously. A chronograph is different in that it can record the length of any period at will。

Understanding Chronograph Watches,How Do Chronograph Watches Work?

Most chronographs now have three subdials and two extra buttons. The position and shape of the subdials and buttons vary from brand to brand and model to model, but the main elements remain the same.

  • Small dials: they are the chronograph minute dial, chronograph hour dial, and chronograph second dial.
  • Buttons: They are the stop/ start button, Reset button.

Let’s know the 2 Buttons first.

The 2 pushers on the side are placed above and below the normal crown.

The top button is the start and pause timer button, and the bottom one is the reset button

and then know the 2-3 small dials

Do you know what the numbers on the subdials represent?

If you do not know, then you should know this, 1Hour = 60 minutes, 1Minute = 60 seconds. Then that small dial represents

  1. the chronograph hour dial

The number on the dial of the hour hand timer is naturally the 12 hours of the day

  1. chronograph minute dial

The chronograph minute dial has numbers from 10 to 60, which naturally represent the number of minutes

  1. chronograph second dial

The chronograph second dial has numbers from 10 to 60, which naturally represent the number of seconds

So, when you turn on the chronograph start button, they run like this, the second’s dial turns 1 circle(60 seconds), then the minute’s dial will turn 1 tick(1 minute). The minute table turns 1 circle, and the clock table turns 1 tick(1 hour).

Some special notes:

  • Standard chronograph with 30-minute or 12-hour timing.

There are also professional chronographs are different numbers on the small second dials, the number is more accurate; they can be accurate in timing to 1/20th of a second (0.05 seconds), 1/10th of a second (0.1 seconds), or they combine normal second dial and professional second dial, that is, It can be either a normal 60s number or a number containing 1/10, 1/20

  • Single-pusher

Some chronograph only has 1 crown or 2 crowns.

For 1 crown chrono watch, that is, the watch with only 1 crown, This crown is used for starting, stopping, and restarting the chronograph, and also setup the time button.

For 2 crowns chrono watch, that is, the watch with 2 crowns. One crown is a normal crown to setup time, and the other one is chronograph crown.

How to Use Chronograph Watch?

Once you know the dials and buttons of the chronograph, the operation is simple

With the popularity of today’s fashionable sports and leisure style, the compact design of multiple dials is more refined and dominant compared to ordinary watches.

Chronographs are loved by people for their strong sense of movement, large size, and rich design elements.

Although wearing a watch with a chronograph function is not necessarily for timing, men are naturally attracted to physical construction machinery, and in combination with the very aesthetic and excellent structure of the chronograph movement, this is what makes chronographs attractive.

计时码表

Remember, the top and bottom buttons are Timer Start/Stop and Timer Zero Reset.

Operation Steps.:

Step 1: Press the start button to start the timing; the big second hand starts to go; the big second hand goes one circle; the minute counter goes one tick; the minute counter goes one circle, the hour counter goes one tick, and so on;

Step 2: When the chronograph start button is pressed again, the chronograph stops and the scale indicated by the large second hand and the chronograph dial is the chronograph reading; and if you start the button again, it will continuously timing again.

Step 3: After completing the timing, press the side bottom reset button to zero the chronograph.

When you are not using the timing function, the big second hand does not tick.

the big second hand always stops at 12 o’clock, so some friends who do not understand the chronograph think the watch stopped, in fact, it is not.

How to maintain your chronograph?

To maintain your chronograph, just follow the start sequence, stop and reset, reduce the wear and tear on the internal gears and don’t operate the chronograph pushers too often to reduce the chance of failure.

Why do people buy chrono watch?

Many friends like to wear chronographs; the compact design of multiple dials is more exquisite and dominant compared to ordinary watches; perhaps this is where chronographs attract people. But there are some people who don’t know how to use the mechanical chronograph correctly.

Some because of the mechanical design of his dial, on the one hand, because it is used for timing.

In the past, people invented chronograph watch is used in horse racing,

Now, a chronograph watch is useful in running, fitness, racing, Polit, Astronauts, etc., anywhere you can use it for timing purposes.

50+ Types of Watches [Full list] - Expert View

50+ Types of Watches [Full list]Expert View

Do you know how many types of watches are there? I saw many people asking this question on Quora. Now, I have the answer.

Watch types can be distinguished according to 8 different categories. The most common are watches classified according to the movement( Quartz, Mechanical, etc.), the user (men, women, kids, the elder), and function(piolet, diving, pocket, military, etc.). also are listed and separated by function, watch display, value and materials on this page, They are then followed by users, styles, artwork, and waterproof.

But you can not just define watches by their movement, usage, or style. There are actually many categories we can think about. We have such a list of views. Without making things longer, let’s start digging into their details of the 8 different varieties of types of watches.

Watch Types By Movement

Watches classified by movement are the most common classification

Movement is the engine of the watch. Some call it caliber. Here are the common types of watches in terms of movement used.

  • Quartz watch: Quartz watches are battery-powered watches. Generally, they are less expensive than other watch movements. They can last long by replacing the battery as part of your maintenance.

You can have GMT Dual time zone watches, digital watches, and analog-type watches for quartz watches.

  • In the GMT Dual time zone, you can see two time zones at the same time based on the GMT system.
  • Digital watches are watches wherein you see the time through real-time numbers instead of hands.
  • The analog-type watches are regular wristwatches with hands, and it is the opposite of digital ones.

They are also divided into two types – manual and automatic.

Manual movements are also called hand-wound movements. Unlike automatic movements, manual ones need regular winding.

  • Electronic Watch: As the name suggests, electronic watches are electric-powered. Thus, some people also refer to these as electric watches. Like quartz, it does not require many moving parts. Like mechanical watches, however, they can come with lots of advanced features.
  • Ecology-Drive/Kinetic Watch: Ecology-driven watches, also called eco-drive watches, are not the same as kinetic watches. However, their features may come together.

Ecology-driven watches get their power from any light we can encounter. Note that these watches still work even in dark places.

Meanwhile, kinetic watches are similar to mechanical watches.

The difference is that a self-charging battery powers it. Kinetic watches convert one’s movement into electrical energy, which supplies the watch’s power.

  • Solar watches: Solar watches are pretty similar to ecology-driven watches. It converts sunlight into electricity, and such electricity is used in recharging the watch’s battery.

Watch Types By Function

Sometimes, a watch is used to tell or know the time. Many modern watches feature additional features, each powerful from one type to another. Thus, some watches may function in a more advanced manner. The following are watch types according to their available function.

  • Simple Hour and Minute watch: This type of wristwatch does not have any kind of complications. This is also considered one of the classic watches in the world.
  • Chronograph watch: Aside from telling the current time of the day, the chronograph allows you to measure duration. In layman’s terms, it is simply a stopwatch. Its modern version is quite distinguishable. It comes with a few dials within its face and three buttons on the face’s right side.

Often, dials include one for the hour, for the minute, and for the second. Meanwhile, the three buttons are for stop, restart, and reset. However, chronograph watches are not limited to being a stopwatch. Some also include other features like a tachymeter.

  • Moon phase watch: This watch seems attractive because of the availability of the moon’s face on the watch’s dial and face. Aside from regular time, this type of watch adds a moon face complication, allowing a person to estimate the moon’s phase relative to what we can see in the sky.
  • Pilot and racing watch: Pilots and racing watches are different from each other in a few ways. First, we can describe a pilot watch as a watch that helps a pilot navigate the sky and know the time.

Meanwhile, the racing watch is used for car and motor racers to measure racing times. It features a chronograph movement, tracking distances. It also comes with a tachymeter for measuring speed.

  • Aviation watch: An aviation watch is also called a pilot watch. The most common features of this type of watch include a large, round case with a black dial and luminous markings, the triangle at 12 o’clock, and an outsize crown.
  • Military watches: Military watches are one of the most advanced watches in terms of functions. They have an extensive list of core features to fit all military personnel’s needs. They must be durable, and they must also be resistant to shocks, water, and scratches, along with their thermal resistance feature.

Readability should also be a consideration because military personnel will need it, especially if they have a job that needs to be done in dark places. It is better if a watch has a long battery life for a long usage period.

  • Tourbillon watch: This type of watch is common for those people who want the most accurate timekeeping results. The great difference between a tourbillon watch from other mechanical watches is its escapement. Instead of being in a fixed position, it is in a rotating cage.
  • Diving Watch: A diving watch, as the term implies is a watch for professional divers. Watches under this type are also durable and have extreme resistance to water.

Aside from being water-resistant, they are also magnetic-resistant, shock-resistant, and chemical-resistant. Like military watches, diving watches also need to be easy to read and have the ability to measure durations or diving time. Divers must also avoid underwater glares, so these watches have anti-reflective features.

  • Mountaineering and hiking watches: These types of watches are best for traveling on mountains or any hiking-related activities. Watch’s specification often varies and may also depend on one’s preference. However, the common features in hiking watches include GPS and heart rate monitoring systems.
  • Pocket watch: As the name suggests, a pocket watch is a timepiece that can be put inside your pocket. It is common for pocket watches to be attached to the chain. Like wristwatches, they can also come in different designs.
  • Alarming watch/clock: Alarming watches are mainly the analog style with hands, put on the desk or near the bed.

The oldest timepieces were only designed for knowing or tracking the time. However, when you are too busy or need to wake up earlier than usual, some watches are now capable of alerting you. That is where alarm clocks or watches came from.

Some watches can be set at any time you want. Others are designed to make a sound every 30 minutes or an hour.

  • Nurse watch: The nurse watch, also known as the nursing watch or fob watch is a timepiece used by nurses. In most cases, like in the UK, nurses are not permitted to use a wristwatch. This is because wristwatches are prone to dangerous substances for patients. Therefore, they prefer watches that can be attached to their uniform.
  • Stopwatch: The stopwatch with the same feature of the chronograph watch. The main difference is that a stopwatch often does not have other functions than being a stopwatch.
  • GPS Watches: GPS watches are timepieces integrated with GPS or the Global Positioning System. Along with the use of a map, it can help you track locations. It is common for military personnel, runners, and rescuers.
  • Atomic Radio Controlled: This type of watch or clock is called a Radio Controlled Clock. However, many call it a radio-controlled or simply an atomic clock. This type of quartz timepiece wherein a watch relies on the time code it gets from a radio transmitter. The radio transmitter synchronizes everything through a local atomic clock.
  • Emergency watch: An emergency watch can be used by anybody. However, it is common for older and young people who need to travel to new or less known places. This type of watch is good for timekeeping and sending signal messages to other people in case of an emergency.
  • Perpetual Calendar watch: A perpetual Calendar watch is a type of watch wherein you can both see the time and date. Most perpetual calendars take leap years into account. Many also feature moon phases.

Watch Types By Display

When buying a watch, we may also consider the display. That is how time appears on the watch. Here are the three possible watches you may choose.

  • Digital Watch: In digital watches, time is presented through real numbers or digits. This enables a person to see the time more accurately without any extra estimation. Unlike analog watches, digital watches are only available in quartz movements.
  • Analog watch: An Analog watch is a more classic type of watch. It is where you check the time through the watch’s hands. While most analog watches are quartz, some are also mechanical.
  • Hybrid: As the term suggests, a hybrid watch is a watch that combines the power of digital and analog watches. Therefore, it comes with hands and an LCD at the same time.

Watch Types By material

Watches can be made from different materials. Each material comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Here are the typical choices of watches under this category.

  • Stainless steel watch: Many love Stainless steel watches because of their durability. It is not easily affected by common substances such as moisture, acids, salts, and sweat. Also, it is rare for people to get allergies to this material.
  • Alloy watch: Compared to stainless steel watches, alloy watches are a little less expensive. However, this type of watch is still durable and good for water-resistant watches. So, if you are looking for an affordable but light watch, choose the one made from alloy.
  • Wood watch: If you think a wood watch is not durable, you may be missing something. Like stainless steel and alloy watches, a wood watch can still be durable.

The materials used for watches to function are of the same quality. The outer parts, however, it is composed of wood. The most significant advantage of having a wood watch is its heat resistance—people like its close feeling to nature.

  • Plastic Watch: Even though plastic watches are pliable, they are still durable. It is also soft for any type of skin. Most of all, its pliability makes it more customizable. That is especially true for shape customization.
  • Silicone watch: Watches made from silicone are also durable. However, its flexibility of usage makes it different from other materials. Aside from being less pricey, it is also environmentally friendly, easy to clean, and more elastic. It is also easier to customize when it comes to colors.
  • Other watches: Aside from the watches mentioned above, there are more other watches available in the watch industry. For example, Some use gold, diamond, platinum, sapphire, silver, carbon, copper, and many more.

Watch Types By Users

When talking about watches, we cannot avoid talking about the user. Are you male, female, kid, or teen? Perhaps, you want to have one for older adults. These are ordinary specialized watches according to their users.

  • Men’s watch: Common features of the men’s watch are their large size. This is not surprising as most men have larger wrists than women. The case is usually rectangular, circular, or square. As for complications, they may vary depending on one’s preference.
  • Women watch: Surely, most women’s watches are smaller than men’s. They are often more stylish than others. More complex colors are often available in this watch category.
  • Kids watch: Even a child can have a watch. They also need it in attending classes and other childhood-related activities. Kid’s watch always has additional features such as GPS or location tracker so that parents can track the traces of their kids.
  • The elder watch: The elder watch is for persons aged 50 years and above. One most notable features of this watch are its readability. When people are getting older, their eyesight begins to deteriorate. Some other watches offer larger numbers on a watch’s face.

Watch Types By Styles

Styles are for everyone. However, not everyone does not have the same taste in style. Nevertheless, here are some general categories of watches anyone can consider.

  • Business Watch: Businesspersons are always time-conscious and conscientious at work. For that reason, their watches usually come with a calendar. The designs also often look formal and professional.
  • Dress watch: A dress watch is a kind of watch that can be paired with any type of elegant dress. Commonly, its appearance is thinner compared to sports watches. It may also come in different colors. However, one can always choose colors that are easy to pair.
  • Casual watches: Casual watches are sometimes mistakenly called rugged watches. While the word rugged can describe this watch, it still appears good-looking. It comes with subtle colors, solid construction, and clean dials.
  • Fashion watches: Fashion watches focus more on their elegancy design, with rhinestones, Chians, or some decoration elements. Nevertheless, fashion watches are great, especially if you pair them with fashionable costumes. Most of these types of wristwatches are sold in fashion stores along with other products such as fashion clothes and accessories.
  • Luxury watches: Luxury watches are associated with rich people. There is no need to wonder because these watches are full of extraordinary features. All watches under this category are made from high-quality and expensive materials. Some are even made available in limited stocks.
  • Jewelry watches: Have you wondered why watches are sometimes available in jewelry stores? Most probably, they are jewelry watches. These watches often feature excellent materials – the same materials used in high-quality jewelry pieces. Jewelry watches is the same as fashion watches,

Watch Types By Electroplating Artwork

Electroplating(15) is one way to plate colors on watches by chemical method. The Plated surface with metallic luster

Who doesn’t like a watch with good quality, wearable, and favorite appearance? The watch’s appearance will have many colors, so how is it done? It is sprayed on through different processing methods. As a watch manufacturer, we also separate the watches like below:

  • Water plating watch: Different uniquewater platingsolutions can be used for different products. The plated parts can be placed in the water plating solution at room temperature (15-40℃) and shaken slightly to finish in a short period (e.g., silver plating, only 30 seconds). So This method is easily oxidized and discolored, Mostly used for less than 5 dollars watches.
  • Ip Plating watch: It is a PVD( Physical Vapor Deposition) technical,

Vacuum vapor deposition is a method of heating metals under high vacuum conditions, causing them to melt, evaporate, and then form a metal film on the surface of the steel after cooling.

It is commonly used in the watches industry. This plating has a good function of stable color quality of the watches. The IP Plating watch is much more expensive than a water-plating watch.

  • No Plating watch: Of course, if one does not have any plating, you can always request no plating watch. We called no plate watches, Silver watches or Stainless steel color watches. It may also reduce the cost.

I Will need to add links of water plating and Ip Plating differences.

Watch Types By Waterproof

While there is no such thing as a waterproof watch, we only mean a water-resistant watch. Surely, this is important to everyone as splashes are sometimes unavoidable. Water resistance is measured and marked by an ATM. Here are their differences.

  • 3ATM Watch: This watch can resist water from small accidental splashes. If it is new, it can tolerate shower splashes. However, it is not recommended to expose it.
  • 5ATM Watch: This type of watch can withstand a larger volume of a splash. You can keep it in your hands while having a shower.
  • 10ATM Watch: 10 atm watch has a higher level of resistance to water. It’s okay to bring it as you go swimming. However, it is not for heavy diving.
  • 20ATM Watch: This watch is good for high-impact water sports. If you love scuba diving, this one’s for you.
  • 30ATM Watch: Aside from splashes, swimming, other high-impact water sports, and scuba-diving, saturation diving is also permitted in this watch.

Lastly, do remember one thing: even if you have bought a waterproof watch, Pls remember that waterproof watches are not resistant to water in Vapour situations.

Here I will use links of other articles we writed.: about waterproof

Conclusion:

When it comes to watches, we can classify them into different categories. These categories can be the basis for choosing the best watch for your needs. Do you now know what type of wristwatch is best for you?

Apa Perbedaan Antara Jam Kuarsa dan Jam Tangan Mekanis?

The most significant difference between quartz and mechanical watches is how the watcheshands move, quartz hands move by jump, and mechanical watches move continuously.

Quartz watches rely on battery power to run an oscillator that controls a small stepping motor. This motor turns the gears that drive the watch’s hands. Quartz watches are highly accurate because they do so very precisely; quartz watches are highly authentic.

In contrast, mechanical watches use a mainspring that the wearer winds to power the watch movement. The mainspring gradually unwinds, which turns the gears that drive the watch’s hands. As a result, mechanical watches are less accurate than quartz watches, and they need to be serviced more frequently.

In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the differences between quartz and mechanical watches, and we’ll also give you some tips on how to choose the right watch for you. Stay tuned!

How Did A Watch Work?

A watch is made up of a watch case plus invisible parts inside. The inner part, which we call the movement, The movement inside is made up of many different metal parts and some spring-loaded screws, and it is like a car engine that drives various hands to run

The movement is the soul of a watch, without which the watch cannot work. So depending on the components inside the watch, we define different terms for the watch. There are quartz watches and mechanical watches.

What Is A Quartz Watch? What Is A Quartz Movement?

A quartz watch is a watch with aquartz movement(1). A battery powers the quartz movement, and it uses a quartz crystal to keep time. Quartz watches are more accurate than mechanical watches, and they require less maintenance.

Quartz movements are made up of a few key components:

  • battery
  • quartz crystal
  • An electronic circuit

The battery provides power to the electronic circuit, which powers the quartz crystal. The quartz crystal vibrates at a very high frequency, which is used to keep time. Quartz watches are very accurate, and they can save time to within a few seconds per day.

Fine Swiss watch companies, such as Patek Philippe, use quartz movements to meet stringent quality standards.

What Is Mechanical Watch? What Is A Mechanical Movement?

A mechanical watch is a watch with a mechanical movement. The mechanical movement is powered by a mainspring, which is wound up by turning the crown (the knob on the side of the watch). This stores energy in the mainspring, which then powers the watch movement.

Mechanical watches (2) are less accurate than quartz watches, requiring more maintenance. However, many prefer mechanical watches because they look more technological and luxurious than quartz watches.

What is a mainspring? How does it work?

A mainspring is a coiled spring in a mechanical watch that stores energy. The energy from the mainspring powers the watch movement, which then turns the gears that drive the watch hands. Mainsprings need to be wound periodically, and they can also be manually wound by turning the crown (the knob on the side of the watch).

How Do You Set And Take Care Of A Quartz Or Mechanical Watch?

Take care of your watch related to careful use and always maintenance.

Setting The Day & Date:

Mechanical: Most watches have a day/date window. To set the day and date, first pull out the crown (the knob on the side of the watch). Then, turn the crown until the day and date are correct. Finally, push the crown back in.

Quartz: To set the day and date on a quartz watch, first locate the crown (the knob on the side of the watch). Then, press and hold the crown in, and turn it until the day and date are correct. Finally, release the crown.

Wind The Watch:

Mechanical: To wind an automatic watch, first locate the crown (the knob on the side of the watch). Then, turn the crown clockwise until the watch is fully wound. Do not over-wind the watch, as this can damage it.

Quartz:There is no need to wind a quartz watch, as the battery powers it.

Cleaning:

Mechanical: To clean a mechanical watch, first remove the strap or bracelet. Then, using a soft cloth, gently wipe the case and crystal. Do not use any harsh chemicals or solvents, which can damage the watch.

Quartz: To clean a quartz watch, remove the strap or bracelet first. Then, using a soft cloth, gently wipe the case and crystal. Do not use any harsh chemicals or solvents, which can damage the watch. You may also want to use a soft toothbrush to clean the crevices of the watch.

Replacing The Battery:

Quartz: To replace the battery in a quartz watch, first locate the screws on the back of the watch. Then, using a small screwdriver, remove the screws and carefully take off the back of the watch. Next, locate the battery and remove it. Finally, replace the battery with a new one and reassemble the watch.

Mechanical: To replace the battery in a mechanical watch, first locate the screws on the back of the watch. Then, using a small screwdriver, remove the screws and carefully take off the back of the watch. Next, locate the battery and remove it.

Finally, replace the battery with a new one and reassemble the watch. You may need to take the watch to a professional to have it serviced if it is not working properly after replacing the battery.

Band:

Mechanical: To replace the band on a mechanical watch, first remove the screws on the back of the watch. Then, using a small screwdriver, remove the screws and carefully take off the back of the watch. Next, locate the band and remove it. Finally, replace the band with a new one and reassemble the watch.

Quartz:To replace the band on a quartz watch, first remove the screws on the back of the watch. Then, using a small screwdriver, remove the screws and carefully take off the back of the watch. Next, locate the band and remove it. Finally, replace the band with a new one and reassemble the watch.

Storage:

Mechanical: To store a mechanical watch, remove the strap or bracelet first. Then, place the watch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. You may also want to place the watch in a storage case or box to protect it from dust and other debris.

Quartz: To store a quartz watch, first remove thequartz strap (3) or bracelet. Then, place the watch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. You may also want to place the watch in a storage case or box to protect it from dust and other debris. Do not place a quartz watch near a magnetic field, as this can damage the watch.

Service:

Mechanical: To have a mechanical watch serviced, you will need to take it to a professional. They will disassemble the watch and clean all the parts. They may also need to replace some of the parts if they are worn out.

Quartz:To have a quartz watch serviced, you will need to take it to a professional. They will disassemble the watch and clean all the parts. They may also need to replace some of the parts if they are worn out.

How Long Will It Last With Proper Care?

A quartz watch should last up to five years with regular battery changes, while a mechanical watch will last indefinitely with proper care.

The Pros And Cons Of Quartz And Mechanical Watches, Respectively?

Quartz watches (4) are typically cheaper than mechanical watches, and they are less prone to breaking. Mechanical watches are more expensive than quartz watches. Still, they are much more reliable and can last indefinitely with proper care.

Which is better for you? It depends on your needs and budget. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, reliable watch that does not require much upkeep, then a quartz watch is better. However, suppose you are looking for a high-quality timepiece that will last forever with proper care. In that case, a mechanical watch is the better option.

Should I Focus My Eyes On The Watch’s Movement When Buying A Watch?

No, you should not focus your eyes on the watch’s movement when buying a watch. Instead, you should focus on its appearance and functionality. The movement makes the watch tick (pun intended), so it is not as important as the other factors.

Conclusion:

If you’re still on the fence about which type of watch to buy, hopefully, this article has helped you make a decision. Quartz watches are more accurate and affordable, while mechanical watches are works of art that come with a higher price tag.
